First City Monument Bank Ltd. (FCMB) is working together with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to start the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women program to help encourage people to start their own businesses.
Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women is a worldwide project that assists in making the economy stronger by giving business owners everywhere useful learning, hands-on things to do, and teaching from instructors at well-known business schools, reaching over 200,000 business owners.
Created by Goldman Sachs and taught through the University of Leeds, the 10,000 Women Online learning program is available to all small and medium businesses, giving access to all ten classes and the chance to become a member of the 10,000 Women alumni group.
Continuing its history of helping female business owners, FCMB, through its SheVentures program, has greatly helped women in Nigeria start and grow their businesses over the past five years.
The program has given out loans with no interest that add up to N800 million and has provided training and guidance to thousands of small and medium businesses run by women.
Yemisi Edun, who is in charge at First City Monument Bank, said: “Helping women who own businesses is very important for coming up with new ideas, creating jobs, and making the economy better.
This plan will make their abilities better and also create new chances for their companies, which fits with our goal of helping everyone grow fairly and steadily.
George Ogbonnaya, who is in charge of Business Banking at FCMB, said the bank is dedicated to helping small and medium businesses, adding that, “this working together helps make things fairer for women in business and will help everyone grow in a lasting way.”
