Leading up to Saturday’s special elections nationwide, Deputy Senate President Barau I. Jibrin on Wednesday guided members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a big gathering throughout the Bagwai and Shanono local government areas of Kano State.
Barau was accompanied by the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata; the head of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations, Engr. Abubakar Kabir Abubakar Bichi; and other important people in the party to gather backing for APC candidates before the voting.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled August 16 for special elections in Bagwai and Shanono, and also an extra election is going to be conducted in Ghari (Kunchi) Local Government Area.
People think the Kano special elections will show how strong the APC and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) are before the big elections in 2027, especially since Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who used to be governor, stepped down as the APC’s national boss.
Kano, which has the second most people in Nigeria, has been a very important place for politics lately, with the NNPP winning the governor’s race in 2023. Because of this, Saturday’s election is expected to do more than just pick new lawmakers; it should also show which party is becoming more popular in the state’s changing political world.
A lot of people who support the party came to the rally on Wednesday, and APC leaders told people to come out and vote in big numbers to help the party win.
Senator Barau said at the event that voting for Ahmad Kadamu, the APC candidate, would help the Federal Government have more influence and bring more projects to the area.
Barau stated, “If you vote for the APC in this special election, it means you are getting ready to win the governor and president elections in 2027.”
After that, the campaign went to Ghari, where the APC flag was given to the person running for the party in the extra election.
Engr. Bichi said he was sure the APC would win the House of Assembly elections, pointing to how well the party is doing at the national level.
