The head coach of Paris Saint-Germain, Luis Enrique, has said that he personally chose to not include Gianluigi Donnarumma in the UEFA Super Cup match against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday evening.
Instead, he chose Lucas Chevalier, who came from Lille this summer, to be the main goalkeeper for the game.
Before the game, Enrique stated that he wanted a different type of goalkeeper for the squad.
Enrique said, “Donnarumma is not in the team because I decided so myself. I take full responsibility.”
“I want a goalkeeper with different skills, and I chose to do this. Gigio is among the best goalkeepers globally.”
Donnarumma and PSG have disagreed after the Italian player turned down the chance to sign a new agreement.
His current agreement ends in June 2026, but there have been talks about him possibly leaving this summer.
